SU Officers

President – Jahnavi Emmanuel

Jahnavi is first and foremost the main interface between the student body and College authorities. In this capacity, she spends much of her week in meetings both with college, other JCR presidents, and of course OUSU. Because of her involvement with College Staff and students, she also heads up a number of campaigns on behalf of Wadhamites. If you don’t know whom to ask, Jahnavi is the best person to contact with a query and can guide you to the appropriate person within college for help. She is also free to discuss anything—SU related or otherwise.

Vice President – Alex Cibulskis

Alex assists the President in her duties, standing in where necessary.  He is responsible for much of the day-to-day running of the SU; he compiles the agenda for our meetings, runs SU elections, and is the first point of call if you would like help bringing a motion to the SU. He is also responsible for looking at ways of making the SU run as smoothly as possible and ensuring everyone understands how it works, by keeping the constitution up to date, writing a guide to the SU and managing the SU website.

If you want to bring a motion to the SU, they can be sent to him by the Friday before our Sunday meeting. If you need any help writing motions, there is useful information in the SU Guide, or just email Alex!

Treasurer – Max McGenity

Max looks after the SU cheque book and makes sure that all the money we give out as grants in SU meetings can be found somewhere in the budget. He keeps the bills ticking over and keeps the accounts ship-shape - indeed, any student can request a full copy of the accounts from him with 4 days' notice. He is also part of the Rent Committee  which has kept Board & Lodging charges in College in check successfully for several years, with the result that Wadham students pay some of the lowest rents in Oxford.
If you have any questions about grants awarded by the SU (for example, for representing Wadham at sport or in the arts, or for a charity you're involved in), send him an e-mail, and he can help you write a motion.

Communications Officer – Nathan Somers

Nathan is responsible for keeping everyone in college informed of goings-on in Wadham and beyond. He sends out weekly notices full of events you might want to go to, job opportunities, and all manner of other things. He also takes the minutes of SU meetings and posts these online both live on his twitter feed (https://twitter.com/WadhamSUComms), and on this website, so that you can make sure we all do what we promise!

If you want to send a notice around Wadham or around the university - for example, to advertise an event you are running - then email it to Nathan and he can send it round.

Welfare & Equal Opportunities Officers – Ali Johnson & Helly Kipling

Ali and Helly keep the college up-to-date with welfare goings on in college and uni-wide. They are the first port of call with any welfare or equalities issues. They put on a variety of welfare events and activities throughout the year, including welfare teas (about three times a term, where you'll find a lot of free cakes and also sympathetic ears if you need someone to talk to), yoga in Hilary and Trinity term, and film screenings. They can discreetly put condoms, lube or dental dams in your pigeon hole if you email them. Ali and Helly coordinate the Peer Support programme, a confidential listening service for students, and, if necessary, can refer students to OUSU’s Student Advice Service or the University Counselling Service. They also run the welfare snug, a room in college for anyone who wants to relax, de-stress, and have a cuppa!

Access & Schools Officers – Loukia Koumi

Loukia is in charge of selling Wadham to prospective applicants, by co-ordinating Open Days, offering tours and a first-hand view of college life. As the application process progresses, Loukia is on hand during the interview period to look after the candidates and provide them with some classic Wadham hospitality and entertainment.

Bar & Social Officer – Courtenay Mansel

As bar and social officer, Courtenay is in charge of sorting out the famous cocktail bars at Wadham's two most famous events of the year - Wadstock and Queerfest. He also puts on a number of exciting events in the bar. The most entertaining of tasks is the termly creation of Wadwords -  the college bogsheet that's packed full of the latest goings on and tales of misdemeaning students who haven't been behaving. The position of bar and social is, unsurprisingly, very sociable and lots of fun.

Charities, Environment & Ethics Officer – Will Warner

Basically there are two parts to this job. Firstly, Will divides up the money that is donated each month by students as a levy on students' battles account. At the end of each term he accepts nominations from any student for a charity that the student in question would like the money to go to. Secondly, he organises events in College to raise funds for charity and awareness.
You will see him around college a fair bit pestering people for money and hopefully putting on some really good events.

Entz Officers – Alex Wickens & Grace Roffe

These party-hard Wadhamites are in charge of our fortnightly bops, Queer Bop in Michaelmas and Wadstock in Trinity term. Bop themes are their responsibility, so if you’ve got a winning fancy dress outfit that cost you 40 quid, but that you’ve only worn once, let them know your theme at the email address above. They will also appear in your inboxes regularly with details of club nights and special offers - you can have a pretty good idea of where the Wadham crowd will be on such nights!

Food & Amenities Officer - Mirela Ivanova

Mirela has regular meetings with the Domestic Bursar, Hall Manager and Head Chef, in an attempt to improve the menus, prices, products and general quality of food served in hall, so feedback to the above e-mail address is always welcome! She is also responsible for amenities in college (this might include changes to/refurbishment of JCR facilities, bike shed, pool table, JCR kitchen…)

Housing Officers – Charlie Davies and Dani Alexander

The housing officer's role is to provide information to Freshers who are looking to live out and to organise room ballots within the college itself for finalists. Essentially we inform the students of the housing options available to them, provide them with a 'Living Out' guide which advises on living out and compares living out to living in Merifield and we also offer protection and advice for students who have run into difficulty with their landlords or estate agents.

International Students' Officer – Niels Hulgård

Niels is always on hand for advice on setting up bank accounts, getting vaction residence and events being run by the University-wide International Students' campaign. He also puts on his own events especially for Wadham students to celebrate different cultures and to help everyone, home or international student, to get together and settle in.

LGBTQ Officer – Dave Watson

Dave advertises and organise LGBTQ events, organises crewdates and help with organising Queerweek and Queerfest. He also runs the new Wadham LGBTQ Society. He is here to represent LGBTQ students and is the first point of call should you have any concerns about LGBTQ rights in college.

Women's Officer - Anna Bradshaw

Anna's role involves representing women and women's issues in the SU and in Wadham as a whole. She maintains the women's room, run events throughout the year, and keep Wadham women up to date with relevent issues. The women's room is available for any woman who cannot otherwise get home. It also contains a variety of supplies, including condoms, sanitary products, rape alarms etc which are kept fully stocked.

Technical Officer – Nick Wragg

Nick is in charge of all the tech equipment in the JCR. He also sets up the sound system for the bops and help out backstage at Wadham events, including Queer Fest and Wadstock. If you experience problems with the tech equipment or if you need speakers for your event, email them at the address above.

Academic and Careers Officer – Sam King

Sam is here to offer support, advice or even a friendly chat on work issues while you’re here at Wadham. Whether you are struggling with the work load, can’t get to grips with the new approach to studying, or simply have no idea how to start a piece of work, they are the people to come to! They can put you in touch with the 2nd and 3rd years that do the same subject. They’ll also be running tutorial feedback sessions throughout the year so will welcome your honesty in order to address your concerns about your working environment and tutor relationships.

Arts Officer - Alex Wood

Email: su.arts@wadh.ox.ac.uk

As the SU Arts Officer, Alex represents an internal point of funding, enthusiasm and support for college societies and students with particular artsy interests. Together with the all-inclusive SU Arts Team, Angie is also in charge of letting students know about events and opportunities going on in Wadham and across the Uni and the coordination of Wadham Arts Week in Trinity Term. The arts team holds regular events for the creative student body including dance workshops, a drama group, talks from artists, jazz sessions and classical open mic nights.

Sports Officer - Omar Salih

Email: su.sports@wadh.ox.ac.uk
Omar acts as a representative to any external university sport societies/organisations and an internal point of contact for students and college sport societies. He publicises sports-related events and information, helps to coordinate intercollegiate events and organise the fresher’s fair, and oversees the maintenance of college equipment. Omar arranges the Amalgamated Clubs meeting every term, makes the minutes available to the college, and ensures that any funds allocated are used for the purposes that were approved by the meeting.
Tortoise Officer - Joe Williamson
Joe is in charge of preparing for the impending arrival of our college tortoises, Theodore and Archibald Manshela, and, when they are here, he will be in charge of looking after them, and organising visits for those students who want to visit the tortoises.
